Mohammad Aziz’s voice conquered music industry in the 80’s -90’s, and still people enjoy his evergreen numbers from films and non-film albums, most of them listed as chartbusters. The songs rendered by him were picturised on top-stars of Bollywood like Amitabh Bachchan, Rishi Kapoor, Mithun Chakraborty, Govinda and others. All the leading composers of that period recorded songs in his vocals which mesmerized music listeners. Undoubtedly, Syed Mohd. Aziz Unnabi, popularily known as Mohammad Aziz is a singer of substance.
Being an ardent lover of music and late Mohd. Rafi, Mohd. Aziz got a break in 1984 for a film Amber, but it was Mard films super-hit track ‘Mard Taangewala’ which turned his destiny instantly. At his peak Mohd. Aziz was deemed as heir to Mohd. Rafi. He is one of the rare singers who can sing at the seventh note (satwan sur). Music duo Laxmikant Pyarelal recognized Aziz’s potential very early and repeated him in most of their movies. Some of the famous movies in which he sang for Laxmikant Pyarelal were ‘Khuda Gawah, Karma, Ram Lakhan, Aakhri Raasta, Amrit, Nagina and many others. Apart from Anu Malik and Laxmikant Pyarelal, Mohd. Aziz has also worked with and other first rate composers of Bollywood such as Naushad, Kalyanji Anandji, Anand Milind, Bappi Lahiri, Nadeem Shravan, Jatin Lalit, Usha Khanna, Anand Raj Anand, Rajesh Roshan, late Aadesh Shrivastava and co-rendered songs from Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle to Sunidhi Chauhan.
In a long span of his career Mohd.Rafi has rendered 377 songs, under the music direction of Laxmikant Pyarelal, but Mohd. Aziz in a small period sang 327 numbers recorded by the music duo which is meritorious. In Bollywood, Mohd. Aziz has sung more than 9,000 numbers and in Bangla he has recorded 5,000 songs which is a rare achievement. Aziz has also sang songs for film-non-film albums in almost 23 languages like Bhojpuri, Punjabi and other regional languages which too gained success, especially Oriya in which number of his bhajan albums were sold like hot cake.. On stage front also Mohd. Aziz have remained busy round the clock and is constantly performing in India and abroad. He was also conferred awards as the best male playback singer for late. Feroz Khan’s Dayavan (Filmfare) and BFJA Award for Watan Ke Rakhwale, both in the year 1988. Presently, Mohd. Aziz has selected 23 shlokas for an album from a famous book titled Muhazir (Refugee) which is written by Munawwar Rana. The chosen sholkas are being used for his ambitious private album by the same name Muhazir, being sung and composed by the versatile artist.
