The five time National Award winner received a standing ovation from more than 400 filmmaking students of WWI at the 5th Veda event
Mumbai, 21st March 2017: An endless thunder of claps echoed through the auditorium of Whistling Woods International (WWI), when ‘Padma Bhushan’ awardee, Shabana Azmi walked up the stage at the 5th Veda cultural hub to address an enthusiastic audience. The event commenced with a spiritual AV, featuring the evolution of acting over the years in Indian cinema, followed by a series of monologues performed by the filmmaking students for the guest of honor. The session was moderated by Founder & Chairman, WWI, Subhash Ghai.
One of the finest actors in Indian cinema, Shabana Azmi shared her acting experiences with the audiences right from her FTII days, and how studying there was an eye opener for her. With an aim to celebrate the actor’s contribution to Indian cinema, various clips were shown from her movies, right from her first to the recent National award winning movie, Neerja. She also shared a few lines written by Javed Akhtar and threw light on the importance of poems in our lives.
Being an actor, she believes that it is always beneficial if an actor is also a poet, as it gives them the required command over the language.
Speaking about her experience at Whistling Woods International she said, “I don’t feel like I am a guest here, I feel like a family member of WWI. I have been a part of this institute since its inception, and it is always a pleasure to visit the campus. I want to congratulate each student present in the auditorium, as they have got a wonderful opportunity to study here. I would like to wish all the students good luck for their future.”
The eventful session concluded with a token of appreciation given to the evergreen veteran Shabana Azmi by Meghna Puri, President of Whistling Woods International.

The serial is being liked by viewers all over.‘Bandhan Kachche Dhaagon Ka’ is directed by Manoj Singh for producer D.N. Joshi a.k.a Dharmanand under the banner of Trishakti Films. Bhuvan Joshi is the executive producer. Harmanpreet Kaur, Arun Kumar, Heramb Tripathi, Anjali Bhadoria, Antima Sharma, Somesh Singh and others also features in its cast.It have been 15 long years since Neeraj Bharadwaj made his first appearance onscreen. He has featured as hero and important roles in various Hindi and Bhojpuri films including many serials on Doordarshan and other various satellite channels. He’s not only full of youthful energy but ever willing to change with the times. We meet the actor on the sets of his serial ‘Bandhan Kachche Dhaagon Ka’ in Madh Island, Mumbai. Herewith are the excerpts of the tete-a-tete that followed:-
What attracted you to the role? Could you describe your villainy in it?
The role itself and the director and the production house….the combination was something lethal. Director Manoj Singh watches everyone’s work and appreciates it. When he narrated the role to me, I realized that the director wanted to use my years of experience as an actor to reinvent my persona. In Bandhan Kachche Dhaagon Ka I play Indrajit, the cousin brother of the family, who for money, wealth and property will take all the efforts or play any kind of mischief till I lay my hands on it. As an actor, I always get something new to perform at. My negative character is so bad that the audiences will start hating me. It is difficult and challenging to portray villainy on screen.
In a small-town saga, how has the director shaped up your character?
I have played many positive roles I am renewing it for a while. This role is powerful who has enormous arrogance for money and clout. Overall the subject has the realistic and commercial feel in it to connect with the viewers.
After your compact performance in ‘Saath Nibhaana Saathiya’ how come you do not have other projects for other channels?
I am looking at doing something good and challenging. As of now, I am going through few scripts. I do not run after money. I want something performance oriented and not be like a lamp post in any of them. I do not want to go to such weddings where only flower is thrown. Nowadays, only women are given prominence in various serials while male characters are just show pieces or fillers. I do not want to do these kinds of works. Whenever something good comes my way I will let you know.
This apart, what next on cards?
These days I am concentrating more on films. I have signed 3 Hindi films and a film each in South and Marathi languages. Even I am designing film and television serial projects for many makers too and that too in stringent budget.
There have been stories doing rounds about the divorce between your wife Upasana Singh?
It was true… At times it is not always hunky-dory on the personal front. The relationships were marred by compatibility issues and different expectations from each other. Though we tried to make the marriage work, the differences were irrevocable. She is my senior and we have worked together on numerous occasions. Our professional lives have never posed a threat to our marriage. Things are quiet as of now. I want to re-consider about this and find to give quality time to my wife.
As it is, it’s a personal matter and we do not want media intruding in that space.
Like your most counterparts, will you be joining politics?
I will join politics in 2022. I strongly believe in astrology. It has a great role in my life. The planets and the star sign also influence one’s life too. Accordingly, I will definitely come into politics.
Amidst all the evolution, will we see Neeraj Bharadwaj joining the production and direction bandwagon too?
Over the last few years there are huge changes everywhere in the world. I am all for changes, always have been, and I accept them and participate in them. Changes bring in evolution and progress. But I am not interested in joining the production or direction bandwagon. I am an actor and always remain an actor.

पटना, 21 मार्च 2017: मशहूर शहनाई वादक भारतरत्न उस्ताद बिस्मिल्ला खां ने अपनी कृति से न सिर्फ बिहार का बल्कि पूरे देश का नाम रौशन किया। डुमरांव के साधारण से गलियों से निकल कर उन्होंने शहनाई वादन को एक नई पहचान दी। इसलिए आज हम उनके 100वें जन्मदिन को ‘नमन उस्ताद’ कार्यक्रम के जरिए याद कर रहे हैं। उक्त बातें कला, संस्कृति एवं युवा विभाग के मंत्री श्री शिवचंद्र राम ने आज बहुउद्देशीय सांस्कृतिक परिसर पटना में बिहार संगीत नाटक द्वारा आयोजित उस्ताद बिस्मिल्ला खां के जन्मसती समारोह के दौरान कही। इससे पहले उन्होंने कार्यक्रम की विधिवत शुरूआत दीप प्रज्ज्वलित कर किया।
श्री राम ने उस्ताद बिस्मिल्ला खां को पुष्प अर्पित करते हुए कहा कि उस्ताद खां आज भले हमारे बीच नहीं हैं, लेकिन उनकी कीर्ति हमें आज भी गौरवान्वित होने का अवसर देती है। बिहार की माटी के सुगंध को उन्होंने अपनी शहनाई से दुनियां भर में फैलाया। उन्होंने शास्त्रीय संगीत के केंद्र में शहनाई वादन को स्थापित किया। उन्होंने हिंदी फिल्मों के अलावा मद्रासी फिल्मों में भी शहनाई वादन किया। भोजपुरी में उनकी ‘बाजे शहनाई अंगना’ को भला कौन भूल सकता है। उन्होंने कहा कि विभाग पहली बार उनकी जयंती को वृहद पैमाने पर आयोजित कर रही है, मगर राज्य सरकार उस्ताद बिस्मिल्ला खां के सम्मान में एक भव्य कार्यक्रम के अयोजन को उनके गृह क्षेत्र डुमरांव तक विस्तारित करने का काम करेगी।
कार्यक्रम की शुरूआत उस्ताद बिस्मिल्ला खां मंगल गान के साथ शुरू हुई, जिसे अर्जुन कुमार चौधरी के द्वारा बनाए गए रसन चौकी से जुड़े गया के कलाकारों ने अबरेज आलम के नेतृत्व में पेश किया। फिर पत्रकार, चिंतक और समाजसेवी पुरूषोत्तम ने उस्ताद बिस्मिल्ला खां के जीवन पर एक संक्षिप्त परिचय दिया। इसके अलावा ध्रुपद गायन और 40 मिनट की वृतचित्र कार्यक्रम का मुख्य आकर्षण रही। कार्यक्रम में कला, संस्कृति एवं युवा विभाग के अपर सचिव आनंद कुमार, बिहार संगीत नाटक अकादमी के सचिव तारानंद वियोगी, आलोक धन्वा, विभा सिन्हा,अशीष सिन्हा, विनय कुमार आदि उपस्थित रहे।
