Bhalessa, Historically recognized as a paragna in the jagir of Maharaja Amar Singh, Bhalessa carries the legacy of Queen Bhalla of Raja Nagpal, who traversed these lands en route to Chamba. The Takri records and accounts of travelers like Frederick Drew bear evidence to the ethnic richness and the Pahari dwellers of this land besides the pahari linguistic Paradise as classified by Dr GA Grierson. Today, with “Bhalessa Meri Jaan,” Raja Sarfaraz, Sonali Dogra, and Ishfaq Kawa have taken a monumental step toward preserving and showcasing the soul of Bhalessa through a heart-touching musical masterpiece.
“Bhalessa Meri Jaan” is more than a song; it is a cultural exercise and a timeless document that focuses on the natural beauty, ethnicity, and cross-cultural heritage of Bhalessa. Spearheaded by Raja Sarfaraz, a local artist, and writer, this project envisions preserving the essence of Bhalessa amidst the rapid modernization and evolving cultural landscapes. The song’s tagline, “A Saga of Brotherhood and Modesty,” focus on the values of respect, tradition, education, and religious harmony that define this land.
The song is a multilingual masterpiece performed in four languages, representing the linguistic and cultural diversity of Bhalessa including Gojri and Pahari. The thematic framework revolves around the four seasons, with each language and melody celebrating the vibrancy of nature and the ethos of the region.
The music, composed by Ashh K, is an auditory delight, blending traditional instruments like the Rabab (played by Zubair) and the Flute (by Rakesh Ji). The soulful melodies are complemented by the evocative lyrics penned by Raja Sarfaraz, with contributions of Bhaderwahi lines from Ashaq Ali Ashaq. The harmonious interplay of music and lyrics paints a vivid picture of Bhalessa’s natural and cultural richness.
The song brings together a stellar team of artists and creatives. Renowned singers Ishfaq Kawa and Sonali Dogra lend their voices alongside local talents like Touqir Ali and Musa Choudhary, an orphan given his first break as an on-screen performer. The visual spectacle is captured through the lens of Pinku Chauhan, under the creative direction of Keshav Bhat. Bhalessa’s cultural movement initiated by us and other local fora in 2010, we explored the untouched beauty, art and languages of the area. People there are simple, honest, caring, lovely and more importantly true to their culture including artistic tastes. Among those I was introduced to during that period was Mr Raja Sarfaraz. I have known Raja Sarafarz, a cultural enthusiast for more than two decades now.
He is not just the creative force behind “Bhalessa Meri Jaan” but also an accomplished author, actor, and filmmaker. His notable works include the book Tears of Kashmir, an exploration of peace and brotherhood in the kashmir valley, and his forthcoming book Apology to the Contemporary World. With acclaimed projects like “Ye Meri Kahani Hai Damini”, 92 Hours, and Salaam-i-Bhalessa under his belt, Sarfaraz continues to highlight the rich cultural heritage of his homeland.
“Bhalessa Meri Jaan” stands as a beacon for the unexplored beauty and cultural richness of Bhalessa. It is a clarion call to the government of Jammu and Kashmir to prioritize the preservation of Bhalessa’s ethno linguistic culture. तो खूबसूरत राधिका का अब तक का सफर कैसा रहा है? राधिका ने कहा, “किसी मिशन के साथ की गई हर यात्रा एक चुनौती होती है। यह आप पर निर्भर करता है कि आप उचित योजना और बुद्धिमान रणनीति के साथ किस तरह से आगे बढ़ते हैं।” उन्होंने आगे कहा, “मैं अपनी ग्रेजुएशन के लिए जयपुर आई थी। वहां पढ़ाई के दौरान मैंने अपने कौशल को बेहतर बनाने के लिए अलग-अलग क्लास ज्वाइन की, जैसे डांसिंग, थिएटर, स्विमिंग, कम्युनिकेशन एन्हांसमेंट, पर्सनालिटी डेवलपमेंट आदि। बचपन से ही मैं फैशन इंडस्ट्री में कुछ करना चाहती थी, जिसने मुझे आकर्षित किया। जैसे-जैसे मैं बड़ी हो रही थी, मुझे नहीं पता था कि मैं अपने बॉलीवुड के सपने को कैसे पूरा करूँ। मेरे एक गुरु ने मुझे ब्यूटी पेजेंट के बारे में बताया।
मैंने उसके लिए अपनी तैयारी शुरू कर दी और अपनी कड़ी मेहनत के बाद मैं एलीट मिस राजस्थान की पांचवीं रनर-अप घोषित की गई।” राधिका मुंबई कैसे आईं? “देखिए, जयपुर में मेरा मॉडलिंग करियर अच्छा था। मुझे वहां नियमित काम मिल रहा था। लेकिन जब हम एक्टिंग प्रोजेक्ट्स की बात करते हैं तो जयपुर मेरे लिए सही जगह नहीं थी। इसलिए मैं एक्टिंग वर्कशॉप और काम के लिए मुंबई चली गई। और मैं हमेशा मुंबई आकर यहीं रहना चाहती थी, क्योंकि मुंबई एक अद्भुत शहर है और मुझे प्रेरणा देता है,” राधिका ने सोच-समझकर कहा।
जयपुर के एक छोटे शहर की लड़की से मुंबई तक का सफर कैसा रहा? “मेरा सफर काफी मुश्किल रहा क्योंकि मैं गैर-फिल्मी पृष्ठभूमि से ताल्लुक रखती थी। मेरे परिवार में सभी डॉक्टर और शिक्षक हैं। और मुझे अपने माता-पिता को मनाना पड़ा। सौभाग्य से, वे बहुत समझदार हैं,” राधिका ने कहा। “हालांकि आपको अस्वीकृति का सामना करना पड़ता है और कुछ गलत लोगों से सामना करना पड़ता है, लेकिन मुझे हमेशा खुद पर, अपने भगवान और अपनी मेहनत पर भरोसा है। मैंने इसके लिए वास्तव में कड़ी मेहनत की है और मुझे विश्वास है कि मैं जल्द ही अपनी पहली फिल्म साइन कर लूंगी,” राधिका ने बहुत आशावादी होकर कहा।
पेशेवर रूप से, राधिका ने अब तक क्या किया है? “मैं नियमित रूप से कमर्शियल शूट करती हूं, बड़े ब्रांड शूट करती हूं और मैंने तीन म्यूजिक एल्बम गाने भी किए हैं,” राधिका ने बताया। और प्रतिस्पर्धा को मात देने के लिए राधिका की रणनीति क्या है क्योंकि फिल्म उद्योग में बहुत से नए लोग अपनी किस्मत आजमा रहे हैं? “सच कहूं तो, हर किसी की अपनी रणनीति, संघर्ष और किस्मत होती है। मैं यहां किसी के साथ प्रतिस्पर्धा करने नहीं आई हूं,” राधिका ने स्पष्ट रूप से कहा। आप यह जानने के लिए उत्सुक हैं कि बॉलीवुड में राधिका का आदर्श कौन है और क्यों? “मैं दीपिका पादुकोण की प्रशंसक हूँ। वह मेरी पसंदीदा अभिनेत्री हैं। जब भी मैं उन्हें बड़े पर्दे पर देखती हूँ, तो मुझे सकारात्मकता और कड़ी मेहनत का अहसास होता है,” राधिका ने एक आकर्षक मुस्कान के साथ कहा।
